Fresnel WhatsApp group
One day people will switch to a more secure way of communication, but for now there Fresnel WhatsApp group. Ask people around you to add you to this group – all “the most important questions like “When the bus strike will be over ?!” and “I can’t enter the building, someone open the door for me” are discussed in this group.
Driving licence
Citizens of many countries can exchange their driving licence to a french one, but hurry up, this should be done within the first year. There is a new procedure for that starting from August 2020, so you gotta check it out yourself here : https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F1460
Salary slips

You can check your salary slips online. You should create an account here using your social security number. If you don’t have, see above how to get it. If you have the social security number, but still cannot log in, make sure that you have sent your social security number to your HR, once you got it.
Food places
1 – CROUS – you have to get a blue university card for that and connect it with the IZLY account, if you want to pay not the full price, but the reduced one (for AMU/CNRS personnel or students) . However it is closed during all the scholar vacations and summer. Huge group from Fresnel leaving at 11h30 sharp everyday, join us :).
2 – Burger place #1. Not very healthy.
3 – Burger place #2. Also not very healthy (but better 🙂 )
4 – Cafétéria CROUS. Mostly sandwiches and fries. Open during scholar vacations but the food stock is usually limited — better go before 11h30
5 – People with CNRS contract (PhD student, postdocs) can have a discount at the restaurant “Les Terrasses de St Mitre” located 57 Chemin des Serens, 13013 Marseille. You have to fill the form attached and there are some other papers to add, mainly relative to CNRS contract. Then, you need to send all the documents to the person in charge at CNRS delegation Valérie Léon, valerie.leon@dr12.cnrs.fr (still up to date ?)
6 – A kebab place that is always open. A true lifesaver.
